I received a very good offer from one of FAANG. I have yet to receive a competing offer as I just wrapped an on-site (3 rounds) with another company and has a scheduled on site with another FAANG company next week. Compensation wise, it’s fair. It’s about 20% more than what I am making today. However, the commute is going to increase from 20 Mins to 1 hour each way. How can I ask for more sign on without competing offer? I don’t think I can get the competing offers in time since the offer will be expired this Friday. Just ask and state no reason? Or cite the longer commute? Thoughts?
The company doesn't care much where you drive from. Competing offer will be the way to go, push back and tell them you need more time.
I tried but they were firm that they could only wait until this Friday :(
That's bullshit. Tell them you will reply after you get the other offers in. They're just playing hardball.
+20% pay and +20% total time spent for work+commute. No.
All FAANG in exception of Netflix is 1 hour away, thanks to awful traffic of 85. It really limits the number of companies I can work for :(
They also have shuttles, commuter benefits, etc. I don’t know where you live so I can’t speak to whether driving is the best commute option or not, but where you choose to live and how you choose to get to work isn’t the companies problem nor do they owe you money because of where you chose to live. You knew where the company was when you applied for the job. It’s not like they surprised you with it. I don’t see this as a comp bargaining chip.
Which of FAANG are you talking about? The more info you give the better ppl can answer your q
