Negotiating Green Card in Offer
Anyone have any experience negotiating for immediate green card sponsorship in a software engineering offer?
I've done it at various companies with 1 year policies to start the process immediately upon joining instead of waiting 1 year.
Yeah. It is possible. Done that successfully. You can start the process immediately on day 1.
Yes, I have been involved in such both as a candidate and as a hiring manger. It is very common. Many companies have an official 1 year policy, but they also make exceptions easily *if* the candidate asks for it during interview.
Have done this myself, and it is easy with good companies. Good companies don't make a big deal of this, usually. Don't think of this as a favor from the company as that can make you feel a bit weak during negotiations. You will need this to be able to live and work in the US long term, so in my mind, companies are obliged to do this. 1 year is too long and unnecessarily delays things for you, so make the case that this isn't a reward.
You can negotiate whatever you want. Just do in writing !
