I have a verbal offer from both, waiting on written offers. Expect offers will be in the same ballpark but Facebook will come in a little higher. What would be your strategy to negotiate here? Both companies and roles are compelling. Same location. Specifically, how much and which specific data points would you disclose about the competing offer to the company you are negotiating with? To what extent would you negotiate them against each other? Product role. I haven’t disclosed how much I expect to be paid to either company.
What are the verbal offers?
That’s my question too— i’ve never heard of a verbal offer, especially from FB
Just a “Hey I have some good news your interview went well expect to hear back from me soon” from the recruiter etc. Verbal hint of incoming offer. Prob need to OK all the details.
Is accepting offer means accepting to join that company?
What else would it mean?
Is your choice only based on TC or do you have a preference between the two?
Very small preference for Facebook, but mostly a wash. Just trying to get a good deal/negotiate respectably.
+1
Decide which company you want to join, negotiate with the other and get the company you like to match/beat it. Don't feel bad about strategy, everyone is playing their tricks to get you as cheap as possible
OP - how’s it turn out with FB and Google? Did you leverage a competing offer in negotiations?
Op - any update?

They may not provide written offers until you verbally accept because they don’t want you to use their offers to negotiate. However, depending on who wants you more, you can probably just tell them what their offer needs to be in order for you to accept. Know that Facebook can offer up to $100k sign-on.
Why would his verbal acceptance matter? You can simply say no at any time!
Yes, you can reject whenever. However, they want to protect themselves from getting into a bidding war while not losing the candidate as well. I found that if you tell Facebook that you have an offer from Google, they will give you a “non-negotiable” offer and it will be pretty high (at least it was for me).
