I'll intern at Facebook in London this summer. I'm a European citizen (also European born) and do not have an American work permit. How do I bring up the conversation of wanting to work in a US office instead of the London office for a potential new grad return offer? When should I bring it up? After accepting a regular return offer and working there for a year? Already when negotiating my return offer? Of course this assumes I receive a return offer - if I don't I will take it from there. Thanks in advance!
Join, work for a 12-18 months. Find a team in MPK, move on L1. Get GC in two years. I don't think anyone would guarantee you this, especially during negotiation, since the immigration climate is not great and things could change. But if you are delivering on you side, you will have lot of opportunities inside the company.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. How does one go about finding a team in MPK?
Haven't done this myself much (didn't change teams while being here). But we have hackamonths as one opportunity. Just letting your manager know you want to move might be enough for him to help you find a new team too. There a lot of people who move to US, so you will find someone with specific examples too.
Why do all of you from Asia and Europe want to come work in the valley? Just stay put and enjoy your life.
Aware of rents or house prices in the valley? It doesn't make a whole lot of difference. A lot of my European friends have actually returned back.
Hey @OP were you able to do it? I’m in a similar situation with an internship at FB in London this summer

28 terrorist worshipping idiots just got themselves fired and I've never been prouder to work at Google.
FB would be happy to get you one, especially considering that EU immigration has a much shorter queue to green card than many other countries
