Negotiating with Competing Offer
People say it’s best to have a competing offer when negotiating with Google. Are you presenting these offers that you have to Google in writing? How does Google know you are not making something up? If you are perfectly content in your current job and just testing your worth, why not shoot for the moon? It’s much easier to negotiate when you don’t need to or have to leave. If Google wants to make me an offer and it doesn’t match what I expect and they aren’t willing to bump it up I will reject it.

It's so stupid. Yes, they do want to see the offer but no, you don't have to show them. You will just help feeding the monster with competitive knowledge. Just tell them to GTFO
You don’t have to show them anything. But be ready to be low balled and disrespected. They know how much other companies will offer for comparable positions. They will match(not necessarily exceed) anything against Facebook, Uber and handful other companies. But beyond those, they will only offer proportional to the interview scores and will not budge much.
What if you are have an offer for TPM at google and EM at Facebook Unless I show the offer , google won’t know and hence can’t proactively give me a suitable offer
They either believe it or they don’t. You should never share your written offer with anyone other than your partner/spouse or a lawyer.

It's easier to walk away when you dont need something, but not so easy to get a company to actually offer you the higher amount. That only happens if you actually have a competing offer.
