I’m currently super interested in learning more about negotiation tactics and trying to apply them to sales (but I also think it’s an essential life skill). So far, I’ve read two books “getting to yes” and “never split the difference”. Any other resources out there that you’d recommend?
GTY is the negotiation bible. Manipulation is not a long term strategy.
Did you find "Never Split The Difference" useful? I just gave up on it at around the Bend Their Reality chapter. The first half explained the psychology of negotiation which was great but now it's kind of redundant and the author uses "tricks" to win the negotiation...not sure if I should finish this.
I'm reading it now and mirroring is really fantastic. Works like a charm to figure out what drives the other person. Let's see if I can use it to get what I want now!
I really enjoyed it and have used it's advice to some success.
Try the book "The only thing you need in any negotiation is LEVERAGE"
You can negotiate anything The negotiation fieldbook Bargaining for advantage
Fearless Salary Negotiation
Gty actually works if you want a real partnership.
I read negotiation genius by Deepak Malhotra - felt was repetitive and sucked , but I don’t read many books so might be flawed . How did you like the ones you read ??
I like both of them but they belong to different schools of thought. GTY: academically developed tactics, main point is you have to be super rational and separate yourself from your emotions. NSTD: written by ex FBI hostage negotiator. He uses emotions as a tool to influence the other party. I’d recommend reading GTY before NSTD. Both are very compelling though.
