Netflix Holidays calendar

Guys, I read that Netflix would not publish holiday calendar as it operates 24*7. Does this mean even for memorial day or july4th, do you guys need to inform your manager that you would be taking off? TC: 150k, yoe:6yrs

Most groups assume people are taking standard holidays off. That being said, some people think it’s a great day to work to get uninterrupted work done and take off other days. If you don’t block yourself off on a calendar, you may get invited to meetings, which is a common error for folks. As for “informing” your manager... I dont ask my team to let me know for anything short term but anything that is 1+ weeks, I ask for visibility so that I am able to mitigate any questions that pop up and help them if they need to figure out coverage. It all falls under freedom and responsibility

That sounds like a great way to never ever relax since you will be then sure to receive emails or slack messages even on the 4th because some team member will be working and will be inevitably be blocked by you.

I instruct my team to not be available when they are out of the office - be it at the end of the day, on weekends, holidays or sick. I adhere to it myself to demonstrate that it can be done and I never reach out to anyone on my team when they are not working. If they choose to make themselves avaialble, that’s on them. I do give them feedback to manage their time and the expectations of others better, but I don’t control them or what they do. If you struggle with setting and maintaining boundaries, that’s on you. And I would agree that Netflix wouldn’t be the ideal place for you.

You really think a company’s like Netflix would Give you 4th off? (Not vilifying NFLX). Holidays are their busiest times with peak loads. I know of a few companies who don’t give major holidays but make up for it during slow seasons like Feb-May, etc

As noted, you can take that day off. It’s up to the individual. You have the freedom to take whatever days/holidays off you like. Some people don’t want to follow an American holiday schedule. This allows for anyone from anywhere observe any type of calendar they choose. They just need to be responsible for their decisions.

I mark national holidays as OOO and nobody asks questions. There's no lunch or bus on those days and very few people actually work in those days.
