It seems like Netflix recommendations are based on predicting the probability I’ll rate 👍🏻, given that I’ll actually rate a title. It seems that Netflix is not considering the chance that I watch the title to begin with. I had taken a break for a year or so of Netflix, and subscribed again with my old account. All these recommendations are terrible. No you shouldn’t have 90%+ confidence that I’m interested in Barbie. And what’s with some titles not showing a prediction at all? Why not come up with a list of titles that I could rate that would help train recommendations for me? You could even try to predict which titles I’ve already seen outside the Netflix platform. Or nag me to rate titles that you already know I’ve seen. Liking Pokémon Indigo league shouldn’t mean I’m interested in “kids tv”. It’s a millennial classic.
Oh you millennials
If it knows you live in Bellevue it will recommend nothing but Bollywood movies. Might be a bug.
Why don’t you go interview and then fix it. Also would result in a higher TC. Win win
Previously, Netflix recommendations were much better... but what do I know... A/B testing is the king here!
The new algorithm resulted in more time spent on site. You know...because people had to spend forever looking for something interesting.
Not my area at all, but I’d guess it resulted in more streaming hour not just “time on site”
Matrix completion FTW. The algo is always right, don't lie, you loved Barbie.
Wow time for a nostalgia trip and watch Pokemon Indigo League. Thanks OP.
There are plenty of articles out there that discuss our algorithms and how we make recommends: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thrillist.com/amphtml/entertainment/nation/how-new-netflix-recommendation-algorithm-works
“Millenials are now responsible for screwing up Netflix recommendation algorithm.”
