Netflix work life balance

How is work life at Netflix? I mean working late getting shit done is all good.

What I found weird in the culture deck was "we all answer emails on vacation". Is there pressure to work from vacation? Do you get out as average performance if you don't do that?

Absolutely no pressure to check email on vacation. I'm actually wondering where in the culture deck is that mentioned as I can't locate it.
As for work life balance, it's the best place I know of. It is up to you to manage it. For example, before I had kids, I was working from 10-11am to 7pm and there was almost nobody in the office when I left. Now that I have a family, I'm 9-10am to 5-6pm, like most engineers here.
I take at least 4-6 weeks vacations per year, and do not check my emails during that time. In case of emergency, my team can page me, but it's up to me to architect stable and well documented systems to reduce the chance of that happening.

This is like every FAANG company imo. You need to set your own limits because there’s unlimited amount of work to get done, and the employer won’t tell you to go home.
And of course if you don’t want to be oncall, your team should build stable and well documented systems.

From the culture deck - “ Frankly, we intermix work and personal time quite a bit, doing email at odd hours, taking off weekday afternoons for kids’ games, etc. Our leaders make sure they set good examples by taking vacations, often coming back with fresh ideas, and encourage the rest of the team to do the same.”
