I was contacted by a SEM at Netflix due to my background, and how closely it aligns with the job posting. At the end of that phone call the manager expressed that I was a great fit for the role. I then had a screen with the recruiter for that team, and was notified today that there aren’t any current opening that fit my background. What do you think went wrong? YOE: 7 TC: 275
what role was it for initially?
Recruiter found some culture gaps, may be you didn’t talk the culture jargon enough. Netflix hiring is broken, don’t feel bad about it.
Yeah, maybe. The one thing that stands out... the recruiter asked me for comp expectations, we agreed that I’d do some research on COL in the Bay. I then asked a clarifying question for my research, “do all teams [with my role] get payed equally”, and he said that it sounded like I am comp focused.
What a BS answer. Most people who work here are comp focused. There is internal Blind poll to confirm that 😀
Recruiter screen for cultural fit. Did you express objections regarding giving or receiving harsh feedback and getting fired?
No, it ended up being because I expressed interest in subject matter outside of the job description. They wanted someone more focused on the title.
The recruiter had sent me the culture document to read. It had a point that clearly said that they fire low performers that they do not need. I had said that sounds like an unstable and caustic work environment. I got rejected soon after that. Oh, well.....
What do u think went wrong?
I really don’t know, it all seemed to be going amazingly. Maybe they hired someone?
Most likely the manager found someone else better in terms of fit. It happens all the time. Just like when we leave for better tc
