I currently in Buffalo and I plan on moving to Seattle or Bay Area in the next 3 years. By the time I leave I‘ll be 33. The reason why I haven’t moved yet is because my girlfriend is doing her residency here. So we’re stuck here for now. Lol So while I’m here I will be trying to get my first developer job this year or early next year.( I’ll be done with my bachelors degree in computer science from the university of Illinois Springfield. in August of this year.) The market here is so so. I talk to one recruiter he told me it’s mostly .Net jobs or anything relating to Microsoft. (🤮🤮🤮) I’ve also seen allot web jobs in the area. I’m really passionate about machine learning and data science due to mathematics, which made me interested in Computer Science. However I’m willing to study the web just to get fucking paid. I’ve been doing helpdesk for 10 years I’m just getting tired of the shit. Smh My question is should I just study the full time web and just learn ML/Dats science on the side? I eventually want to do machine learning but I know that might take me awhile to get there. Any advice on my career is much appreciated.
Why don’t you try rooftopslushie.com ?
Thank you so much.
BS and not from a top school, it is hard to do ML. Amazon only hires PHD for ML roles. I know a few people who only have BS or MS doing ML work. They stared in SDE or DE roles, and then transited into ML fields. But I’ve never seen a single people doing ML fresh out of school with a BS or MS
There are a few AWS consultants as well, do does "ML stuff" with a MS degree.
What degree? Bachelors/Masters or PhD? If BS/MS, IMO it’s hard to land ML positions in a great company, especially research scientist/researcher positions if you don’t graduate from a top school.
BS in Computer Science from the University Illinois Springfield. Sorry I guess I should’ve stated that early.
Do you know of developers who worked around that?
