Hi, I'm currently looking for a new grad/entry-level role in Austin. I graduate in May 2020 with B.S. in Computer Science from UT Austin. I have previously interned at HPE, AMD, and Samsung. Would love to chat with anyone working at any of these companies- AMD Apple Charles Schwab Dell Expedia GM IBM Indeed Oracle Paypal Samsung Visa Walmart Open to most companies Target TC would be 80k or more. Thank you
Not opened to relocating? Just asking, I live in Austin and like it a lot.
I want to stay if possible because my girlfriend and family are in Austin
Have you considered Texas Instruments? It may not be full of CS glory, but it’s a stable company and leaders of everything they compete in
Yeah, I believe TI only has offices in Houston and Dallas
Also, an FYI / word to the young-wise: Being at a company’s satellite offices can be a risky decision. If they make cuts to an organization, satellite campuses are always the first to go. Of course, they do transfer engineers on the one-sie two-sie scale - but there are overwhelming layoffs when satellite campuses close. You probably want to work at a campus with more than 100 people just to even learn about the company/organization as well as learning technically.
Hook 'Em horns. I think he meant national instruments in Austin. There are a lot of places but also a lot of software people in Austin so high competition. I know Dell should pay that starting out.
Look at Arm. Easily pays that for a new grad
Avoid IBM. You'll never experience lower morale at a tech company. salary will start high and never increase. Bonuses are almost non-existent. NI is not as good as they used to be, but not a bad entry-level option. They used to get huge banners bragging about being rated a top workplace. Haven't for years (and it's not because of banner prices). Indeed isn't an option. They're not hiring anyone out of school this year except for previous interns accepting return offers. HEB/Favor, and Whole Foods are apparently decent, but won't be paying the same as tech companies. GM is divesting their Austin tech center. And from all the people I've interviewed who are leaving, it's VERY top down from HQ. PayPal is decent. Though it seemed pretty bad after the eBay PayPal split, but I imagine that's passed. It is a sattelite office with the most important things going on in San Jose. Oracle has a fancy new office, but a culture closer to IBM than anything else on here. Some smaller companies possibly worth checking out: OpCity, Foreflight (though not sure since Boeing acquisition), Offers.com (also not sure since ZDNet acquisition), CS DISCO (they are hiring like crazy). Personally, I'd avoid BazaarVoice (never turned a profit; unclear since they went private again; run by clowns who got hit for anti-trust behavior and then insider trading after a massive 9 person stock dump when they got a heads-up about anti-trust) and RetailMeNot (literally never heard anything other than bad) Oh, and avoid anywhere or get out asap that hires people from Trilogy alumn no questions asked (i.e. no interview). The sinker of countless companies in this town. They're not all rock stars. If a company ever talks about all the Trilogy people they have, _run_. EDIT: I mistook the fact that it was Boeing, not GM, that bought Foreflight. I know every pre-sale is relieved it was a cash sale. Who wants Boeing stock, right now?
Albertsons isn’t up there
