Looking for advice here. I’m in my second job out of college (grad May 2017). My last position was a full-stack Java web dev position. I enjoyed it a lot but the pay just wasn’t good enough. The position I’m working at now has much better pay. During interviewing my bossy-to-be asked if I would be okay writing data loading scripts and dealing with query optimization. I said yes of course “as long as the position isn’t a DBA role” or something like that. The position was advertised as a backend Java developer position with some possibly scripting added. After 4 months on the job, I’ve barely touched any Java. Instead I’ve been asked to work solely on shell scripts and data loads. Is this normal or was I duped into taking a position that no one really wanted? I don’t have the experience to answer that question on my own. Thanks!
This kind of thing happens sometimes. It may just be a case of giving the script work to the new guy because the other team members can’t or won’t do it. I’d give your manager the benefit of the doubt and just have a conversation about the work you’ve been given. Approach it from a positive angle. If nothing changes, move on. The market is in your favor right now.

Is your bossy hot ; ?
Yea hot tip: don’t use the word bossy.
Sounds like your mates is giving you all the mundane works that they don’t want to do. Everyone should share a bit of the pain and not just throw it on one person. Talk to your manager.
