Posting for a friend: How much can I negotiate and increase this Google offer? Google offer: Location: Austin, TX Comp: 102k base salary 87k GSUs / 4 years 30k signing bonus 10.5k relocation Amazon offer: Location: Seattle, WA Comp: 112k base salary 80k RSUs / 4 years 36k signing bonus (first year) 22k signing bonus (second year) Based on the provided numbers (not including reloc) + 15% annual bonus, Google matched Amazon's offer. I'm likely going to accept the Google offer, but wanted to get some advice negotiating equity a bit higher (ideally 100k or above). I'd also like to benchmark this against other offers for Google's Austin office.
Seriously not even worth to think about this. Google is tough to come back, where as you can always go back to amazon anytime However never choose amazon tho. Plus Austin is the booming city.
Google has refreshers, $40k for L3 so keep that in mind.
Is that divided by 5 years stock thing or cash bonus ? Between how much it is in amazon ?
As far as my understanding goes, it’s divided by 4 years. So each year you get a refresher, but each refresher vests equally for 4 years. That’s $10k additional per year. Amazon uses a target compensation philosophy which means you won’t get any stocks if the value of your current grants exceed that target, which it usually does. You can expect no refreshers for years 1-4 and then for the 5th year you’ll be brought up to the TCT, which will almost definitely be lower than what you can get externally. More details on Amazon’s policy here. Check out this post! "How “refreshers” work at Amazon (Compensation)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/pVJmPiL4
“For a friend” “I’m likely going to accept”
Pretty sure he just copy and pasted the post his friend sent him....
Welcome to Austin
Any insight on how much Google's offer can be improved? And not whether to choose Google over Amazon?
Google vs Amazon in Austin is apples vs oranges... g has a much nicer office, more perks, downtown. Amazon has more core work for the company., in the Domain
