How important is a promotion at this job?
I'm a mostly infra-focused soon-to-be new grad. From a previous internship I have a offer from Facebook in Seattle (118k sal + 10% bonus/220k stock/100k signing). I'm thinking of taking this, since I hear Facebook promotes quickly and I'd like like to make it to L5-equivalent in <5 years and then optimize for low-stress jobs and a work-life balance, but I think I can hustle for a few years and ditch to Microsoft or something. Questions: My internship at Facebook didn't seem too stressful, but I don't have a great sense of how that changes in full-time. Plus, the reputation of Facebook has recently, um, let's say changed. Does it still have a high technical hiring bar? Are people less willing to work there? Finally, my friend group seems very interested in Asana (in SF), and I'm not sure how mentorship/total comp/career velocity/ability to transfer to another company at the same level would differ at Asana vs. Facebook. Thanks!
Why do you have a Google account but don’t consider Google?
Internship. I'm under the impression that it's pretty slow to be promoted at Google - a lot of the new grads I know currently working at Google are looking to leave.
Why are they looking to leave? Is it just slow promo? I thought median time to L4 is 2 years
In fb, wlb is very team specific. Generally I feel most teams are ok. Or I am lucky?
It doesn't change in full-time since interns are expected to work hard to get a full-time offer. Most people come back for that reason.
Asana is pretty competitive in TC. We compete with Google/FB all the time.
Do you know what the new grad offer is at asana?
It’s been a while since I got a my new grad offer but the base was higher than FB and the options (which are looking very attractive rn) were more than I expected. Overall (clearly) happy with the offer. Worth investigating
Do you still think you made the right decision?
FB is one of the highest paying companies in Silicon Valley. I would assume they can give you a much better TC than asana
