New grad uber vs msft

Very fortunate to be in this situation but i would like to seek some wisdom from the experienced folks. Im having a really hard time deciding between two companies... Uber said i wont know which team ill be joining nor which office ill be going to until the month before the start date. The role is swe. Msft offered a team in business application group which seems very promising (exact team wont be known until the month before I start but one of powerapps/powerBI). Role is swe as well and might be mostly fullstack. Compensation wise, ill be making much more at MSFT MSFT 117/135/40 along with 20k relo Uber 108/45/10 along with 5k relo Msft stock is vested over 3.5 yrs if that makes any difference. Msft is also L60 which is a one level below SDE 2. However it seems that msft sde 3 == uber sde 2 according to levels.fyi (??) Very disappointed at ubers offer and they wont negotiate further along with unknown team... Is going to msft the right choice for me? I figured the entry level impact / resume prestige is just about the same. Will not be returning to amazon as I really didnt like working at AWS EDIT uber’s new offer 110/110/20 with 7.5 relo

Super lowball uber offer. Msft totally makes sense.

Amazon waves ~_~ OP Jan 18, 2019

Do you know what the standard new grad offer is? Recruiter keep saying uber will ipo hence hard to raise the current offer...

Uber TcMogul Jan 18, 2019

Doesn’t matter what the standard offer is. If it’s that low, even if it’s standard Uber offer, its way below the industry standard and you shouldn’t take it.

What role at Uber?

Amazon waves ~_~ OP Jan 18, 2019

Swe, mentioned in the post

IBM u.n.a.g.i Jan 18, 2019

Really think it's 45/ year. Pls check

Amazon -_-_- Jan 18, 2019

What is that Uber stock that's garbage. Mine is >3x as much. Take msft

Amazon waves ~_~ OP Jan 18, 2019

Wow you got >150 then?

Amazon -_-_- Jan 18, 2019

yeah

Amazon -_-_- Jan 18, 2019

Take Msft. Unfortunate that they won't negotiate but yeah they're very resistant to it for new grads especially. I was a returning intern and had a strong offer. Don't worry about name/prestige. They're both good and you'll do well either way. Congrats!

Thanks for encouraging words :) congrats to you too!

Did Uber know you have another offer which is better than theirs? Tell them you will accept the other offer unless they match it, and give them a deadline. If the offers match then Uber is better. Be ready to go through with this, because if they don't match then you should go through with this.

Amazon waves ~_~ OP Jan 18, 2019

No matching, uber recruiter was very firm on their offer

TC aside, not knowing the team or manager you will work for is a dealbreaker for me. Team culture and whether the manager is bad or good can make or break your career. Seems like MSFT is the clear choice here since you know a bit more about the team.

Amazon amazoning Jan 18, 2019

Don’t agree entirely. If you knew you had an awesome manager at Uber, would you take this Uber offer over msft?

Oracle 🔴vs🔷 Jan 18, 2019

If I knew MSFT manager was shit and Uber was good I would take the lower uber offer. A good manager will help you get your TC up and make impact very fast.

MSFT is a great choice

Microsoft exMSFTz Jan 18, 2019

MSFT for sure. BAG is ok to start. You can apply other companies after signon bonus period.

Amazon waves ~_~ OP Jan 18, 2019

Msged about BAG!

Amazon RirA15 Sep 10, 2019

How's BAG team at Microsoft as I am interested in applying for that org

Microsoft Ullflfhjgd Jan 18, 2019

MSFT obvious best choice.

Uber 8bithit Jan 18, 2019

Wow if that is accurate that is one hell of a lowball from uber. Uber has both a cash and an equity bonus every year each with individual multiplier up to 2x (sometimes higher), msft does not, did you factor that in?

Microsoft Ullflfhjgd Jan 18, 2019

That's inaccurate. We do have bonus and grants yearly. We had much larger grants last year than the old puny ones and time will tell if there will be an adjustment to stock grants to match last year's on a more permanent basis.
