Any one who switched jobs to one of the FAANG companies during pregnancy? Can you share your experience how you managed new job stress while preparing to welcome a new family member?
I think she is asking from Google to Apple or vice versa. I can share my wife's experience with some other company. After the interview and before the offer she told hiring manager upfront that she is 4 months pregnant and he was supportive. The main issue was that she has to go back to work after 6 weeks which I felt was hard on her ( different medical complications )
Actually new job stress always comes from the candidate as the expectation from company side is always low because you are expected to take sometime to be up to speed. The only issue is that by the time you are up and running you will again be taking off. So reality is that you cannot do anything and worrying will not help. Make sure you set the expectations so that tight delivery tasks are initially not assigned
If at 6 weeks you are cleared by doctor and if you have help at home should be ok.
Thanks for sharing.... I just got offers but worried about how I can avoid the new job stress from affecting my health during the first trisemeter.
Parental benefits like leave are accessible from day 1. As long as you have baby after your hire date you get all benefits. As for WLB that’s another story. Expect to be back burnered on projects due to “new baby stuff”. At google it is explicitly called out in the anti discrimination training. But it happens anyway. Just roll with it. Take your fat faang money and say thanks for your unreal leave benefit. When you at the hospital and nurses drs ask you if you have time off for baby and you tell em watch their reactions. They don’t get this kind of time off when they have kids. So if I have to eat a little shit at the office , I’m ok with that.
Don't take the offer at Apple. I have been at Apple for 3 years. And I am a new mom recently. So I can compare the before and after. I was out on maternity leave for 4 months. After I came back they put me on mommy-track. This year at performance review I got no raise 3k bonus. It's clearly unfair. I have worked till 2am after my baby sleeps but none of the managers understand that I want to be serious about my career inspite of being a mom. One of the managers called me a ceramic doll (aka show piece). I am just a head count to them.
Which faang ?
Apple and google in particular
