My team is moving the to a new building (Google MTV to a building in SVL which used to be a Motorola building) and when I visited it today, it REALLY put me in a depressing mood. Probably the worst building in Google Sunnyvale, plus it's surrounded by highways. Enough that I'm starting to consider switching teams even though I like my team/projects/teammates. I'm someone who 1) Hates suburbs, so even MTV was a bit disappointing for me. And I especially hate the the sparse and vast highway environment. 2) Is shallow af and ugly things REALLY bother me. Like I can't enjoy an otherwise good movie if the visuals suck or the actors are ugly. Added pics of the view for context. I'm in my early twenties and I feel like a middle aged balding tech worker wearing a polo shirt right now :( I know I sound like an entitled fucker and I wish this didn't bother me so much, but I get a knot in my stomach thinking about the fact that I'll have to come here every day.
Amazon Seattle campus might float your boat. https://images.app.goo.gl/r7YpPEfhuDoTE2FP7
who would want to work under bezos’ balls?
Looks pretty nice to me..
I feel like there's a more deep seated issue here than your building location
Hmm any idea what it can be? I was happy with my team until today :/
I'm no therapist but it seems to me if superficial things bother you that much, maybe you need to see one. You're already in a career where you make several times the compensation of STEM jobs. Sometimes things aren't ideal but you need to look at the bright side and stop focusing on minor things. It's not like they moved you into a war zone.
If you walk to the TC buildings, there is a lot to do. Good selection of cafes, baristas, ping pong tables, volleyball court, bocce court, nice gym. Easy parking and much better traffic than MTV. I don’t miss the Shoreline Hell every morning and evening in MTV.
You need to see the new Workday building right at the intersection of 680 & 580. And a BART station and a mall to boot!
Doesn’t look ugly to me.. Even in that supposedly suburban place there must be SOMETHING to do. I’d first find that out.
I had an offer from Moto to work in this building before Google bought them. Didn’t take the offer (not because of building). Good I did not because they all were let go within a year.
This is why I moved from the Bay altogether
Same :)
Sounds like you'd love the NYC campus
What’s SVL? Sunnyvale? Yeah this sounds like an episode of the office
Yep Sunnyvale
