Hello, I am an Indian citizen working on F1 student visa. My passport is damaged and I want to apply for new passport. Also this October I am moving to H1b from student visa. Can anybody help me what should I do. I was thinking of going to India this October and first apply for new passport and then after getting new passport do H1B stamping. Is this right procedure or should i do stamping first and then apply for new passport.
You retain old passport, I renewed mine with expired visa on it. Old passport will be with you for safe keeping. I have 2 old passports of mine!

I read about that. But they take back the old passport. So I was afraid that then till the time i go to India, I will not have any US visa.
They will give old passport back if that has valid visa.
