New to Bay Area.. where to live

Moving to Bay Area after new year. Any suggestions or available options on where to live? - Mountain View office - no more than 1hr commute (2hrs a day) - Gbus availability - 2k max - prefer small and nice places over large and old places - willing to share with another roommate(s) - currently in NYC so prefer relatively urban areas (probably not SF coz of crazy rents and commute time) - just for a single person This is blind so expecting some trolls but I seriously need some guidance. TIA. TC - 137k

Willing to share the apartment as long as I have my own small bedroom.

You can get decent cozy apartment in rent in East Bay, I would recommend Fremont if with family.

Fremont 1br 1ba runs for about $2500-$3000 a month now just FYI

Thanks for the input guys. I have changed the post that I'm willing to share bathroom and kitchen as long as I have my own bedroom. Just don't wanna go back to college dorms vibe.

You can live in Mountain View near Castro St and central expressway. Good crowd and close to Google. Other options, Palo Alto, San Mateo or Burlingame.

In 2K - Cozy Apartment in Fremont??

Your best bet is probably a bedroom in a 2/2 near downtown Mountain View. Good luck!

I did. I'm fine with roommates as long as I get my own bedroom

Buy a truck.

Consider South Bay: - Campbell - Los Gatos - Downtown San Jose (per your urban preference) Personal Opinion: Avoid East Bay

Thanks! Was looking at Downtown SJ. Do you know any go-to websites? Like Zillow or Trulia (coz those keep showing up when I Google search).

Pad-Mapper was a great resource for aggregate listings a few years back. Can’t guarantee it’s still relevant but worth a try. There are a few areas to avoid so feel free to reply w/ the neighborhoods you’re considering and I’ll share my personal opinion.
