Hey, I’ve been a Cloud SA / Presales for almost 4 years now (mainly working on AWS). I was wondering if you guys had opinion on the “best” next step after that. At first I was considering pushing things further and applying at AWS/GCP to be a “in house” SA, but I’m getting tired of the position so... My main objective is being able to work remotely. I was thinking about spending time “re-learning” in depth JS and multiple frameworks to switch to Software Engineer. I thought a SA background could be valuable for eventual system design, especially in smaller companies where you need to be polyvalent. On the other hand, some people have told me that moving towards a PM role would be way more logical considering my experience. Thoughts? YOE : 6 TC : 160K
What do you enjoy doing? Money isn’t everything. Also are you able to stretch to be a credible “Experience hire” dev?
Not sure I would enjoy being a Software Engineer but I haven’t really tried so I couldn’t say right now. Also, as you said, money isn’t everything, so I wouldn’t probably aim for a 200K+ TC for a new SE position, and I would plan to build some personal projects to have a portfolio before applying, otherwise you’re right, it might be hard to be hired anywhere.
