I had an interview with Qualcomm and nowhere in the process was an HR person involved. It is kind of odd based on my past interviews with them over the years. It started with the Sr Director emailing me, followed by a phone screen by HM, followed by an on-site interview, followed by a phone interview with the Sr Director. And now they’ve ghosted me but it’s been a bit over a week since the last talks. I’ll ping the HM at the two week mark. But it’s kind of odd there was never an HR person involved. Do you work in the bay area?
Nope. East coast.
I was hired at Oracle without ever talking to anyone from HR. It is certainly possible. Depends on the team I guess.
So was the offer letter and the numbers presented to you by HM instead of HR?
That was all handled by the hiring manager (later to be my direct manager)
It happens most of the time in Qualcomm. The hiring team and managers makes all the decision. HR just handles the paper work for sending offer or sometime to give inputs to promote diversity while hiring .
Thanks for the info. My past experience has been with the SD office. There was always a recruiter involved and also an interview with an HR person on-site. So I thought that was the norm there.
Well that just means it won’t be your last contact with the company before offer.
Lol. I think the interview loop would have decided that they need some practice. So they brought someone in without HRs knowledge. Never heard any interview at Q without HR involved
There is a new process lately at qcom known as express interview where a member of the hiring team directly contacts the candidate and does initial phone screen. Ideally the hiring manager should let you know the results. You may not be the first choice or just that hiring manager is busy with other stuff. You should definitely try contacting them after two weeks.
Update: HM emailed and asked me to come in for another half day interview with the other team under him. Their lead already interviewed me the first time around and we actually clicked really well. I remember I actually wished the position had been with his team as it was a better fit. So I did the second interview and today for the first time I got an email from HR asking for a copy of my highest diploma. This is a bit odd too because usually background check is after accepting an offer. I haven’t seen or heard any numbers yet.

By HR do you mean a recruiter? Most of the places I interviewed with I didn't speak to HR in the process. I spoke with recruiters though.
Any kind of HR. No HR recruiter at the beginning either.
HR != Recruiting
