Hey guys, I am exasperated. I use to run an embedded instrumentation business that I inherited during college. I've got extensive electronics embedded, PCB design, FPGA etc. But it seems there is no hardware engineering positions that pay comparable to software. I'm stuck doing DevOps for STBs. It doesn't help that I'm Indian. Are there no good Hardware positions that I can get in to ? I applied to the Apple & Google but didn't get anywhere. Please let me know if there are options or if I should network on LinkedIn or something
I sympathize both with the desire to work on something "real" (if that is indeed party of the issue) and the frustration where capability is hindered by lack of network. I highly recommend LinkedIn if you have not already spent some time developing and honing your profile on there. I would be shocked if there were no US based positions, but I suspect much of the actual hardware is developed and built in the far East. Best of luck to you and never give up. You can do it.
Thanks. It is frustrating when you can't work on the thing you're passionate about and good at. I'm giving LinkedIn a go and hopefully something will pan out.
AMD, Intel, NVIDIA?
MSFT hires a ton of hardware people
Where?!
What location? There are a bunch of hardware companies in MA.
Apple? There's like a shit ton of HW engineers we could use!. Keep spamming recruiters/HMs on LinkedIn till you make it!
Square
Verily is doing embedded stuff.
It is tough to get into USA if you don’t have a H1b visa. Try for positions locally though it may not be as much as USA
I'm not looking for US exclusively. It's just that given the positions are a fraction of software I'm having to apply globally to have a shot
