I want to apply for a Schengen visa at Italian consulate in Houston. I am visiting multiple Schengen countries spending most time in Italy. My travel date is August 9 but there are no slots available. What should I do?

Potentially as USA residents don’t need a visa for short term visits

The weakest link of Schengen are Belgium and The Netherlands. Make your port of entry Bruxelles or Amsterdam and it will be much easier to secure the visa

Two things - 1) you can also get visa from the country where you enter Europe. 2) Italian consulate have emergency visa process for flights leaving in less than 20 days so you can email them to get an appointment during that window.
