I am (aggressively) applying to FAANG Product Manager roles but so far I have not even been phone screened. Should I stop applying through the standard portals and start pursuing employee referrals instead? I have tried to meet FAANG product managers for coffee in NYC, but many seem to prefer keeping it to e-mail only, so it’s tougher to get a referral from someone who’s never met you. Any tips on how I can improve my process would be greatly appreciated. YOE: 1.5 in PM role, additional 3 in non-PM TC: $102.5k
Go for program manager as FAANG requires more exp for product Program still pays more then what you currently make
Take a look at the APM program at Google or RPM at Facebook. If you have a great school on your resume, this might be a good start.
Tried both, again no phone screen. I don’t have a top 10 university, unfortunately.
Don’t bother applying online. Referral is a must.
I’m going to start doing this from now on it seems. As per the other post, I have found that I should be applying for Program Management roles, not Product. Time to start the program management networking grind, haha.
Your best next option will be to pick a role/company in financial space since you come from Chase. That might give you better chances of success. For FAANG you need atleast 3-4 YoE as PM for a PM job with enough relevant experience. No one really cares about your journey into a PM and that experience. It’s all about how many years you’ve officially been a PM or a CEO for a startup. This is also why your referrals won’t take your seriously esp when they don’t know you personally. Even they do, it’s no guarantee to pass through recruiter
Thank for the advice, much appreciated.
