If I sign a non compete agreement stating to not work for a competitor in a state I currently live in (Nevada) but I accept a job with a competitor where I would move to another state (Oklahoma) but the competitor does business in the State I currently work in (Nevada). Is that non compete agreement typically valid? Just looking for general answers. I know for a specific answer I would need to go to a lawyer. Also to be honest I don't think I have signed a non compete. Ive been at my current job for a few years and I dont remember signing anything. I just know my current job will try something because they will take it personally if I leave. Especially if I leave to a competitor.
If the hypothetical noncompete contained enforceability clause maintaining jurisdiction in Nevada under Nevada law, they could still sue in Nevada after he had moved.
True, but Nevada's non-compete law is vague and their courts seem to rule against employers using excessive geographic reach. This company does a flat-fee review of a Nevada non-compete for $200, which may give OP some peace of mind: https://piccololawoffices.com/is-my-non-compete-agreement-legal-in-nevada/
Don't tell them where you're going.
Bingo. Just shut your trap and pretend like you are going to travel and find yourself, or something.
