Leadership is absolutely inept at Nordstrom tech. Edmond is an abusive dictatorial tyrant who hires toadys with no relevant expertise to lead his orgs. Take for example Supply Chain: an organization full of excellent engineers and managers but senior leaders that allowed business to run roughshod over the teams forcing fragile systems to be built. Now the whole thing is led by an out of date web-dev who's never been a VP before and who's only reason for being there is to blindly follow Edmond's every ignorant dictate. We'll soon find out how having a web dev hack playing at being a VP of supply chain can succeed by creating functional silos and sending them offshore. What does this mean for the rank and file coder? Well if you just graduated from college you're a stronger coder than the VP of supply chain but he isn't capable of knowing that. So he will hold your comp hostage based on whether your code looks like a shoddily built web service from 2002. I say if you're interested in a career in technology or just looking for a new challenge you should do like the rest of Nordstrom's good developers and look elsewhere. If you're reading this in a year or two maybe Edmond's already gone since other companies seem to figure him out pretty quickly.
It’s not just supply chain , but merchandising and inventory that have huge problem areas. Same story there as well.
Yeah digital is similarly a disaster. Nobody is exempt when the problem is a despot and the Nordstrom brothers don't seem to give any fucks at all about preserving the culture and reputation their family built the problems are inescapable.
Merch and inventory is run like shit even before Mesrobe.
Unrelated to tech, but never understood why Nordstrom is so fuckikg expensive. Things they sell seem like same style and quality at other places, like say Macys.
I like to think it's an AB test. They put the same stuff in Macy's and Nordstrom but the price at Nordstrom is 10x. Then they compare income.
Everything I have from Nordy’s is of much higher grade than anything I’ve found at Macy’s. Quality stuff. Fits better, cut better, better material. Can’t compare really.
RIP
Hey Wayfairs CTO has never written a line of code in his life, could be worse
A CTO who never coded is better than a CTO who can't but thinks he's God's gift to code.
We have the worst of both worlds then
