I see a lot of people on here asking questions about how much they should sacrifice for TC, how to get the best salary, comparing TC, etc etc. Everybody relax. There is more to life than money. Money wont mean shit when you're working in a career you don't like in a city you hate for a company you don't respect. I know this is a community for professionals who are all motivated mainly by financial success, but if you aren't considering how your work impacts your relationships, free time, and personal goals then you aren't looking at the whole picture. Nobody cares about your TC but you. We don't care that you're 25 and make 300k. You should be more proud of the fact that you work to develop technology for cutting edge applications that hopefully help people in the future, or whatever it is you do.
I would like to strongly agree with you @op and I actually do agree with you on some level, but everyone here only focuses so much on their financial success because the world taught them to care too much about it. Honestly, I don't think it's the mistake of everyone/anyone on here, as we were all situationally forced to realize the importance of money. Another point is that all this hush hush around TC and the veryyyyyy wide disparity between people of same level (and some of them equally skilled) brings about this frustration of wanting to know what is really their worth and hence it ends up into such a huge TC discussion more than anything.
Totally agree. It's important. Don't get me wrong. But we have kids on this forum looking at these big numbers and deciding that is more important than everything else they previously thought because the big earners here love to share the information. So then you have a circlejerk of comparing TC and we lose sight of the purpose of this app.
I am not sure what is really the purpose of this app, but atleast one of the purposes has got to be making compensation across the industry more transperant. I feel like it's very much needed considering that most of the online publicly available information feels incorrect at best. However is does result in comparing with each other and competing, can't help that. It's an unfortunate by product.
TC?

Lowball - need more competing offers
But many of us pull 9+ hours/day with 1+ hours commute. I find it hard to enjoy life because of this. Might as well make more 💰.
I would have to agree. I got into CS because of how fun it is to build things but it seems everyone just cares about $$$ rather than what projects they're working on....when I'm old and looking back on life, I'm going to look at what I've done not how much I've made
I'm 26 and I'm worth -40k

Hang in there buddy! Things flip
“You should be more proud of the fact that you work to develop technology for cutting edge applications that hopefully help people in the future” This is strange. With what authority? I think everybody should be proud of what they are proud of.
Having a circle with friends at 1M+ net worth at 26-27 and grown family members who due to their life situation made less than 50k/year perpetually... Seeing the extremes I’ll rather maximize for high TC
Developing technology for cutting edge applications. You are either selling ads, people's data or some random dipshit job no one cares about. At least get paid well for your time
Sounds like you don't enjoy going to work
None of you are taking this shit to the grave. Just try to be happy by doing something that makes you feel creative and stop worrying about how the rest of society might use TC to measure success.
