Not returning from medical leave

I’ve been on leave and been receiving short term disability pay almost 2.5 months.

Everything is supported by a physician.

Manager has no idea why other than it’s related to a medical condition. I’m scheduled to return to work in July or receive another extension and I don’t plan to return to work.

Can I simply say that I want to take longer time away for my health and will be resigning effective immediately?

If this is California you don’t need two weeks. Everything is “at will” — so just email the manager saying you’re quitting today. End of story.

Then your work is already taken care. Why not give the notice.

Have quit multiple places on the same day. Not a biggie.

I don’t want to burn a bridge, but I wouldn’t be officially transitioning and I’ve been gone for a long time already

Do you have insurance other than the one provided by your employer?

Yes, insurance is taken care of through my spouse and I don’t care about stocks.

My question is more about not returning/not providing a two week notice.

If you have been receiving benefits from the company while on leave there may be a repayment provision if you don't return to work. Worth checking out if there was a formal leave of absence agreement - there may not have been since this was medical
