O1 or L1 VISA?
Hi, I am Indian and have access to both and wanted to get advice on the following: - I have the O1 approved. Can anyone who is already on O visa comment on how easy are the renewals? Do you have to show continued research papers/publications/patents? I don’t have a strong enough case to go into EB1A. - My team is ready to place me outside for a year and bring me back on L1A as functional manager (not guaranteed). I have no direct reports. Which option would be the best for me? To stay on O1 as it can be renewed indefinitely or to try to go into EB1C from L visa?
Option depends on A) how difficult it is for you to leave US for 1 year without the guarantee that you will be able to return B) how difficult it is for you to get to EB1A If A is difficult, then B makes sense. If you got O1, EB1A is not far away for sure. Make your case strong in 3-6 months and you might have EAD in 9 months If A is easy, just take a break from US and try to come back later on L1A. Try to get commitments from management for the same
If you have a significant other that wants to work in the US, L1, hands down.
There would be no option in that case as O1 spouses cannot work. I hate this rule!!
What is O1 for? I know L1 is management.

Easy to renew O1 as long as you have new things to showcase to maintain your status.
I dont have a PhD. What do you mean by new things? You have to keep publishing papers and patents?
Correct. Not only that specifically but any of the O1 criteria. Need to demonstrate new ones continuously.
