My first year of OPT ends this April but I haven’t applied for STEM extension because I’m looking for other positions. My questions are 1. how long does it take for extension to be approved? 2. When can I start working after the first year expires (e.g. whether it’s the receipt of the case number or the actual EAD card if there’s gonna be a new one)?

Is your company off-shoring jobs?
Apply for stem extension before April, as it takes more than 90 days to get you new EAD. But, once applied, you can continue working on OPT for 180 days even without the EAD card.
