I am currently on F1 CPT and working full time as a direct hire. My current employer knows nothing about visa filing and stuff so I started looking outside and got an offer from GM but via a consultant and not direct hire. As per my knowledge consultants can not file your OPT extension anymore but this consultant can file my H1 at-least the first year of my OPT which my current employer won’t do. I am not sure if my information about consultants is right...if someone knows the right info please share it I am confused whether to take this job or not
You will be fucked either way with the new rules and scrutiny from USCIS, doesn’t matter!
That’s true but what would u do in such a situation
Look for opportunities elsewhere in other countries simultaneously.. keep your options open instead of putting all eggs in a single basket!
Yes, the info is right. Your university's international office would be the best resource to know all details.
Check if your employer employer is e-verified, you can do it online by yourself. If so and you’re a direct hire, you’re fine. OPT extension is done by yourself coordinating with your advisor at your university. First get your extension approved and card in hand, afterwards you can go for any job who will apply h1b for you.
You don’t have to worry about OPT... the rules have been relaxed now!
How relaxed
Please go talk to an immigration lawyer. Your university’s international office should have a list. If not, find the list from Berkeley International Office- at least they will have Silicon Valley lawyers. It will be easily the best $$ you spend.
What list would that be exactly?
