For the past 6 years since graduation, I have been writing mainly desktop applications in c# and python with zero professional experience in web apps(Both backend and frontend). Every employer nowadays expects some experience in web apps and I feel my skills are obsolete for those positions. For the employers that don't care about tech stack like FAANG, I get noticed and had a couple of interviews but I got rejected.and it's hard to always keep interviewing because I live outside United States. What are some possible career paths if my goal is to secure a decent job in Bay area or NYC? Should I change career? Should I quit my job and come to usa to look for a job? Should I take up another degree? Please suggest from your experience. Thanks!
Do side projects.
Do leetcode to get a good job. Then learn how to develop web apps on the job. Profit.
First you need to solve the "live outside US". After you move here and have work authorization, you then start thinking about FANG jobs. I don't mean to discourage you, just trying to save your time here.
Ah okay, cool then you're on the right track.
Learn how to learn yourself
I just want to say that web apps is not a hard requirement. Especially at larger companies
I Understand but large companies are so much more competitive! What can I do to increase my chances of learning new technologies and landing a job in states?
Large companies usually just have a standardized process for hiring. Do a ton of leetcode, review some systems design, work on being able to talk about conflict management at work. It's hard but very studyable
