Since joining Amazon Seattle, I'm developing cubital tunnel/bursitis/tendonitis (according to web md, yeah I know). My right arm aches all day, is inflamed, and the pain is unbearable at times..my fingers on the right hand can't grip tight- I have issues holding tight basically. I have an ergonomic mouse and keyboard , hasn't helped. Has anyone gone through something similar? Any recommendations for doctors, chiropractors ( don't know if they work... TC: 160k Edit: I didn't do anything to cause the injury. I feel typing the entire day. Day and night is causing it. I feel like a govt typing monkey
Stop using your right hand at work immediately. Even if that means using the mouse with your left hand. Make an appointment with your doctor.
And research specialists on healthgrades. I use the Logitech Ergo and it solved a lot of problems with using a pc all day.
Does the pain start from your shoulder or run only down from the elbow? Also do you have any tingling sensation? And does your arm feel colder/warmer than the rest of your body?
Sometimes it's from elbow down..but like off late it's right from shoulder..my shoulder is stiff af..hand is always feeling warm..and now even fitting my arm in a sleeve of a tight fitting shirt.
Hi OP- my spouse is a doctor. It’s important to differentiate between neurogenic and vascular pain. Your symptoms seem to overlap- if it’s more like pain w tingling/burning/weakness then we are looking at some nerve impingement/muscle pain due to rotator cuff injury/cubital or brachial or carpal entrapment. If it’s inflammed, warm and weaker pulses in one arm compared to the other - you are looking at vascular issue. It’s not going to kill you, but since you are in so much pain, my spouse recommends that you immediately see an appropriate doctor (not PT or chiro) that can rule out what the origin of pain is. An internal/family med doctor is good for a start. Most likely it could be just a nerve injury, but some of your statements are seeming it could be an overlap. Are you full time w amazon? You should be having great insurance then.
Health insurance covers this. A physical therapist can help. Based on their diagnosis, health insurance can even help cover the equipment (including a sit stand desk at home, ergo chair, keyboard mouse).
You're not alone, this is a standard hazard. Get physio. I didnt claim it to be due to occupation though as that would mean a lot of paperwork. I'm not knowledgeable about that process anyway so don't listen to me. Excercises: Look up rotator cuff strengthening videos with a band. Do wrist rotations and arm flossing. Also: Wear light loose shirts and sit up straight. Use left hand for computer and phone. Massage your right hand, forearm, and bicep. Use tennis ball or someone's elbow to massage under and around shoulder blade. Do this for a week and don't despair. It's super inflamed right now. Taking Advil for a week will also help get your head in the right space
Yea..I didn't mean it like I want it to be covered as occupation injury .but just pointing that I think it's due to nature of my job .thanks for all those tips..yes it's so I flamed right now..that I'm not fitting into one of my sleeves of a fitting shirt..I tried to use left hand only for texting etc..but have failed so far. Has physio been helpful for you?
Physio is massive for 2 reasons 1- Guy knows what he's talking about pokes around and tells me what he thinks is wrong, and what is not wrong. which is psychological boost. 2- Guy tells me what to not do and points out some excercises to try every day. Those actually help in the long run. Remember this is common and it will get better
I have a similar issue, visit a physiotherapist who will help to relax the tendon and activated muscles. After my first session I felt significant improvement
Start swimming.
Similar issue. You might try other ergonomic keyboard. I'm best on the ergodox. The biggest gain from me was to minimize mouse usage. You mentioned right hand; that's my mouse hand. Vim + learning all keyboard shortcuts has made everything OK again. Another issue might be your desk/chair. If your mouse pad isn't well positioned because chair to low or not positioned right, that could be causing issues if you use your mouse with right hand Also: don't ignore this. See a doctor. You'll need therapy and possibly medicine to get to a point where improving ergonomics can help
What's Vim and what's your rec on ergonomic peripherals?
Echoing all above again: see a doctor! A chiro too if you want but a real doctor should be somewhere on your schedule. The doctor will probably get you a posture brace, among other things. They’re not expensive but they’re even less expensive if your doctor can bill insurance for it. Plus they can make sure it’s calibrated correctly; there are lots of little adjustments to make with these.
You never mentioned where you live, what you did to cause the injury, or your tc
