Oculus Co-founder was fired

So the Co-founder was fired for being Pro-Trump. Is political alignment a deal breaker to find employment in the valley? Is this a right precedent? Does one need to conform to political ideologies of the Big brother? https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/facebook-fired-palmer-luckey-oculus-vr-co-founder-as-he-supported-donald-trump-wall-street-journal-r-1945866 PS: I am neutral to American politics TC: 180K YOE: 9

Freedom of speech doesn’t apply if you’re not liberal

No that's not true, at least for me.

Depending on the topic, I lean one way or the other. With regard to this statement, I 100% agree. There is no disagreement with liberal ideology that doesn't come at the cost of reputation.

From the WSJ article, it really sounds like the proximate cause of him being fired was the lawsuit Oculus lost

Amazon - Nov 12, 2018

I can't feel sorry for this dude though. I hope Zuck gets rid of both of them. Not because of politics but because they made this affordable VR headset dream come true through crowd funding then said "thanks crowd but we're selling it all to Facebook now lolololol" Sucks feeling betrayed, doesn't it? Of course he's reaching around in the dark for an explanation and playing the victim.

What exactly crowdfunders expected: shares, products, something else? Did they read the contract?

GE fndestiny Nov 12, 2018

Being a fan of Trump isn't the problem. He brought political attention with money. When you are trying to sell a product you can't alienate millions of people by injecting right wing politics that explicitly excludes customers or views them as inferior. It complicates an otherwise simple task.

If you can fire someone based on political beliefs that's toxic regardless of which direction you swing.

That's not even why he's fired.

Oracle hfskvceipb Nov 12, 2018

If liberals are snowflakes when they complain about supposedly being treated unfairly, what are these Trump supporters when they do the same?

That's not the reason why he's fired.
