I have an offer from a relatively big tech company (not in the US). I am interested in the job and the offer is much better than what I make now. I am happy with the offer overall but I would hate to know later that my colleagues make more than me or that I left money on the table. I don't have a good estimate of what folks with my background and YOE make in that city. This is not a SDE position and there isn't a lot of information on Glassdoor or indeed for salary ranges. Apparently, my current employer is underpaying me. Two questions: Should I negotiate the offer or take it as is? If yes, how much increase should I ask for (say to the base)? 10%? Many thanks!
You should always ask. It doesn’t hurt. Lead with their interest - “you want me to be happy and performing here, let’s start off this relationship right, etc”. If they say no, you know you tried and did your best. Good professional is not afraid to ask. You should.
I am not afraid. I just feel I don't have a good justification. Do folks typically negotiate without having other offers?
