i got an offer from Amazon today. I’ve FB onsite scheduled early next week. I told my recruiter that I’ll be able to make final decision around end of next week. The recruiter mentioned that it should be fine but they will keep the position open and keep interviewing other candidates in parallel. if another candidate happen to accept the offer before me, they will select him/her for the role. I’m wondering if there is anything to worry about. In case this happens, will i be considered for other positions at Amazon or won’t be considered at all?
Recruiter is trying to play you. Don't fall for it, say ok it's fine. Worst case even if they do that, they will find you other team
Btw, if you are worried, you can accept the offer and still go to FB for interview. If FB offers more, tell Amazon that. Amazon might dive and save you. Otherwise, you can reject the offer and go to FB. It makes HR unhappy but doesn't matter. I did it couple of times in these kinds of situations.
You can certainly renege an offer from a legal standpoint, but my understanding is that this hurts your reputation with that company; potentially leading to blacklist. I personally think it reflects poorly on a person's integrity to do this.
Yes I agree. Generally they don't blacklist but definitely hurts reputation.
Don't worry, I believe Amazon offer should be open for 6 months. I had 3 past offers from Amazon and the last recruiter told me I have 6 months window.
And you chose Booking.com instead?
Yes, for me work-life balance is important and I want to live in Amsterdam.
The recruiter is just trying to play tactics to give you stress for nothing. You passed the interview, they want you more than you want them. The recruiter needs you to accept for a fatter bonus.
If someone was recruited through internal referral, do the recruiters still have enough incentive to convert the candidate since they won't exactly get the credit? @h0r4y
Yes. Of course. Recruiters main kpi is to get candidates to accept offers.
So I was in a debrief a last week. They were willing to hire all the five candidates that we interviewed by blitz. Do you think the HM would take all 5 of course no. Amazon is short on engineers. I bet they will wait even if you accept after a month. Just don't ghost them. And yes the hiring bar is so low. Some days I look myself in mirror and say what the f**k am I doing here
Imposter syndrome?
With Google slowing down hiring, Amazon is going to eat their lunch of candidates...
Which team?
Whats your offer????
I really hope you get FB. Best of luck! I was in the exact position and unfortunately I had to settle for Amazon...Best of luck OP! I'll be on my second attempt with FB onsite soon. I hope we both make it in.
I was surprised at how low pressure my Amazon offer was. They knew I had Google offer potentially coming in and were willing for me to allow time for it but it turns out it is looking to be on the order of months for that to resolve. I was told they had a certain number of slots for this team so they could run out. I decided to lock in and accept even with a Google offer still pending.... someday... I agree that rescinding acceptance is bad form but if you do have a much better offer, and they are not able to match, that they should have to understand you have to do what is best for you. Even though you may have a bad rep, don't you think the next recruiter that looks at you and sees you had an offer want to jump on you to place in a a different team? It would be almost a sure thing to score a placement! Now, if you quit shortly after starting, that is a new level of trouble that could lead to blacklisting...
