What do you do if you have an on-site coming up in a few days and you have been trying to get ahold of the recruiter of the company for two weeks to ask what's the best way to be prepared but she doesn't respond?
That's how Goldman Sachs behaves most of the time. Myself and my friends had lot of communication gaps with Gs. Once, my friend had even done few interviews, only to realise it was for an incorrect profile. This had created a negative impact and adviced juniors not to interview off-campus.
I cannot agree more. Goldman is horrific when it comes to their recruitment process. I had a smooth experience because I interviewed on-campus. But I have seen over time, how they don’t care about letting the candidates know if they have failed any of the interviews. And the weird thing is that managers give their decision within 72 hours, to the recruiters but recruiters don’t bother to do shit if it’s a reject! Not only this, I have seen times where just before the on-site, a candidate is told that either the position is filled or the candidates level doesn’t match, etc! They don’t value candidates’ time at all!
Yeah :/ I had a coderpad round with them. I solved and coded three questions (2 LC easy and 1LC Hard) The interviewer was pleased and was excited to have me ask more questions. But I didn't get through the next round. It felt so weird, as I was sure to make it. Although this is common to happen, Its a lot more frequent from GS. They should correct it, before the bad reputation spreads.
Dont go
Yikes. For what company?
I would write an email to the recruiter and whoever you know involved telling them you want to postpone the interview since you have been trying to get clarifications on how to prepare and you haven't received a reply. Later on when you don't show up they will probably contact you and you can say i already contacted the recruiter informing them to postpone the on-site. This is what i would do if i am not desperate. If i am desperate i would prepare as much as i can and go. If the recruiter replies before your interview just tell them you want to postpone.
And also call them and leave a message.
Why is it so bad to seem desperate? Is it with the offer negotiation? Does it hurt further chance, if they know that I really want this Job ?

Happened to me. I found her peers on LinkedIn and wrote them a message, explaining the situation and I made sure I mentioned how this reflected poorly on company’s culture. They didn’t reply as well. Then, I messaged a couple of directors of recruitment at the company. I received a call from the director in less than 10 mins and she kept on apologizing on the behalf of my recruiter and kept on telling me how my recruiters behavior was not a true reflection on how things work at the company. She reached out to my recruiter right away and I received an apology from my recruiter and since then, he always replied within a few hours!
This is a great answer thank you. Did you feel that since you sort of had complained it would impact your interview results and their judgments about whether they should hire you or not?
No problem! It did strike me but that was a risk I was willing to take because I knew that my recruiter was unprofessional. And if I keep taking his shit, on-site wasn’t the end. Even if I cleared on-site, I had to interact with my recruiter to talk about the results, talk about the compensation, negotiation, joining date, signing offer letter and so on! I don’t like being in a situation where every time, my phone rings, I hope my recruiter is finally getting back to me after 10 days of wait but only to realize he isn’t! That’s fucked up!
