I am planning to interview with Google, FB, Über, Microsoft, Oracle, Netflix and Airbnb. Google is my top choice. How do I optimise the interviewing order so that I have competing offers at hand when I negotiate and also have sufficient interview practice before going for Google. I am assuming the factors that will go into deciding the order will be: 1. Length of hiring process 2. My affinity towards a company TC: 280K Yoe: 6 yrs
Do some warm up interviews from companies you value a little less, and then do Google a few weeks ahead of the rest, because the process (hiring committee, team matching, etc) takes a lot longer than the rest. Try to get the others you mention in close to each other as possible, so you can try to evaluate offers side by side to maximize leverage in negotiations should you be so fortunate.
Why do you want to move?
Money. If it weren’t for money, I am quite happy and content with Amazon. I might boomerang after a year. Unfortunately, getting competing offers or joining from a competing company is the only way to get Amazon to realise how much you are worth.
Google takes forever. Do it weeks ahead of the others.
Google takes a longer time, and our recruiters often recommend doing it before the others... But don't be afraid to make the others wait. They'll try to rush you, but you just need to treat "you taking your time with it" as a non negotiable constant.
Is it ok to say "I can only give my decision after 2 weeks?". Not sure what is the best way to say it. Also is 2 -3 weeks time ok to decide if you want to sign an offer or not?
"I'm waiting to hear back from the other loops" They're not stupid, they know you're interviewing at multiple places. No need to dance around it. :)
Knowing which companies will give you plenty of time to decide could help with your ordering. Fb offers expire after a year.
You can't pick the order, buy you can ensure everyone interviews you ASAP and communicates decisions asap. Just tell each recruiter that you're in the offer stage of other companies, and that will get them to speed things up.
