People working in the oracle cloud side... would love to know your thoughts on working there. The good, bad, and ugly...
What about sales? Specifically cloud.
I know about Pre-sales folks...unfortunate part is that after the dumb ass CEO...Mark Hurd joined everything starts turning negative in sales orgs..which used to be best at one point. He has been known in the past for cutting down the cost rather then focusing more on increasing the top line. I still Can’t believe that nobody saw it for years. Result is that all good sales reps as well as technical Pre-sales folks left the company 2-3 years back. Believe me even if oracle gets a good product I can guarantee you they will fail on sales....as the quality of folks so average now. This is compounded by untrustworthy support by customers. You have to think twice before being part of the sales as you don’t have a good sales team nor a support. Sales in subscription world is non separable from support. You will loose credibility in front of customer eventually. I hope these things change...but I doubt as Mark Hurd in fact is hiring even more sub standard cheap sales folks...so would say NO...
It depends on the org you come into. Basically the only job worth having in Apps is a Prime ERP/EPM Sales position. The HCM team is REALLY struggling against Workday. The CRM team has already lost the battle to SalesForce. All that’s left in HCM/CRM is to try and get the scraps Workday and SFDC leave behind. ERP and EPM guys are selling. In tech, DB is still selling to core customers but not really winning any “new” business vs. Amazon. Respectfully, Mark Hurd ruined Oracle. And Larry doesn’t care as he’s getting too old and none of his kids are interested in taking over the business. So when Larry dies, so does Oracle.
The good : excellent salary, work life balance, learning experiences and co-workers. The bad : the stock isn't going anywhere. We are outsider nobody really wants us to succeed. Most people hate oracle. Lack of benefits (parking is 330$ per month) The ugly : everyone troll you on blind and real life about working there. This make me often feel down but then I remember how much fun I have here
It’s bad and ugly
On the sales side, Oracle has market leading ERP and EPM cloud applications that are easy to sell to many industries. Innovation is being delivered at a rapid pace so it's an exciting place to be.
Have seen wlb mentioned here as a positive. Is that really the case with BMC?
Can somebody please explain the comp structure there at BMC? We keep hearing its high but how does it break down? In MS it’s around 170k base plus 20% bonus and 35k stock over 5 years for an average principal level engineer during annual reviews. Heard that at Amazon it’s only stock but vesting over two years, at annual review time. How is it at Oracle BMC in Seattle in terms of comp structure and average payouts? Asking this since I have oracle recruiter reaching out and I’m sure others will also find it helpful
Base plus rsu vesting over 4 years. Bonus are minimal to none unless you are a superstar. You also get cash sign on when joining which yiu get immediately but has clawback if you leave before 18 mos
Only BMC is getting big paycheck , other “cloud” like gen1 public cloud and Saas are getting normal oracle pay
Which is 50-80% below market
Also not every one gets signon if you are not BMC
It's all ugly
The good from that: Oracle is desperate and paying out the ass for engineers.
You kidding me?
