PIP'ed third time in my life. Feeling low 😔

Should I feel bad about there are three fewer tech companies in the US where I can interview? They are all well known large companies. Presently L6 SDE. I have been in the tech industry for ~ 10 years. Total 6 companies I worked for (3 PIP'ed, 3 resigned). I am good with interviews so no stress about finding another job in the next 30 days. Edit: Corrected the grammar.

Either you have shit work ethics, you’re dumber than you look or you’re an asshole who can control themselve during an interview 🤷‍♂️

Experimented a lot with the jobs, internal tools, desktop apps, front end web development, data engineering, dev ops, and currently distributed systems engineer.

Beedoop, being PIPed doesn't mean any of those things. Wrong team and wrong time.

Synthetic Minds compilers Jun 26, 2019

Sounds like overconfidence when you say you are good with interviews but still have been PIP'ed, but good luck

Amazon blooperss OP Jun 26, 2019

Every time I looked for the job, I had 3-7 offers. So it is not overconfidence. I just know I can make it this time too.

You’re grammar is terrible. I’m not surprised.

“Fewer won’t hire” is the exact opposite of the intended statement. A logic error like this is not a good sign.

Im sorry, I’m sure you feel low. Have you considered shifting into PM or SDM? With 10 yoe and 3 well known companies on resume, im sure there are companies who would give you a shot. Can you expound on what happened at the different places? I’m sure its not enjoyable to discuss, but as someone who recently was PIP’ed at Amazon and is nervously starting a new role I’d love some advice.

Not getting along with my mgr. Mgr unhappy. Ending up pip'ed. Happened all the three times. Experimented a lot with the jobs, internal tools, desktop apps, front end web development, data engineering, dev ops, and currently distributed systems engineer.

Maybe you're entrepreneurial ? You don't enjoy sucking up to The Boss ? That's not necessarily a character flaw. As an Amazon L6 hopefully you're financially secure by now. Why not start a business, not necessarily in tech ?

You are exactly the type of person interviews should be designed to reject. But here we are.

Need more background story on 3 piped, 3 resigned.

Yeah that's a lot of churn for a 10 year career.

Microsoft hitmonchan Jun 26, 2019

Do you Delivery you work on time? Do your peers like working with you? How many hours a week are you actually coding?

Google ke4sHc Jun 26, 2019

Why don't you downlevel and SEE

Amazon Ken M Jun 26, 2019

Were the reasons given all the same? That’s the first place to look.

Amazon blooperss OP Jun 26, 2019

1st job resigned. 2nd job pip'ed after two years job, mgr said skills set mismatch. 3rd job resigned too soon. 4th job resigned. 5th job, pip'ed with not able to fix 1 out of 6 owned services on time. 6th job pip'ed with failed to earn trust (manager disagreements).

What are the other 2 companies where you were PIPed?
