Hi All, I am product operations manager (2 yrs) and previously worked as service engineer (5 yrs) looking to get into product management. I checked out the RPM role thinking it might be a good option but the applications have closed yesterday (my bad for not checking earlier). But also, some folks say that its only for ppl with less than 3 yrs of industry experience. Not sure about that. Can I apply to a PM role directly (which requires 5+ yrs of PM exp which I dont have)? I am getting multiple calls from FB for a TPM role but I am not interested in it (I did interview onsite for the role a while ago but did not clear it). Should I go through a referral? Considering all the above facts, please let me know what the right path would be for me to take steps to get into a PM role at facebook. I have experience in UX, Wireframing, UI design, product launch, rollout and readiness / support. Any constructive tips/help are very much appreciated. Any trolls are welcome and would be taken light heartedly.
Why are you not interested in TPM?
I don’t think I would do very well in a TPM role. It’s a lot of program management with technical hands on as needed. I am more focused on the products side.
Just referred someone for RPM, hit me up if you need a referral as well

why facebook PM? do you have a stellar narrative for that?
Yes I do. Succinctly, I think I have good background in understanding human centric design and that with a mix of tech background would help make better products. To be honest, any user centric products incl Uber.
there are really talented designers and UX researchers at F. they can handle user centric design just fine. how to prevent people from leaving facebook, why is that a good thing, why would anyone be proud for doing that: these are the questions they would hire PMs for. make sure that you are not stuck on design in your interviews. think big and paint a big vision. source: ex HM for PMs at F
