Hi just extremely curious about this (no right or wrong) ...Blk female here, and was wondering while applying to jobs do Caucasian women select 'white' on their applications? Or anything else? š¤ Personally I feel like it's a lose lose for me.. I select 'other', what am I hiding? If I select 'black' or AA (never been to Africa, will never understand that one) maybe they don't want a double-minority, but wait maybe they do need to meet a quota and get a two for one deal? OR I could just hope they hire the best candidate. š¤š¤ Why can't I (we) just be an American? I don't think other countries do this.. Slight sarcasm here, but hopefully I can get some interesting responses. š
Lol you are missing out on a jackpot. Always select black and women its a huge win for tech companies ti hire u
Ok, you and above comment are so right. I just gotta think positive...
As a white male I always choose to decline to answer. Noticed I get a bit more feedback from companies that way.
Very interesting. I wonder what their reasoning is...
Decline to answer is mostly white or asian males lol
Iāve seen more hiring discrimination against fat or unattractive women than POC Past companies Iāve worked at screened women applicants based off their LinkedIn photos prior to inviting them onsite Its not right but it happens. Iām not a woman but am a POC and I always look at current employees to gauge a feel for the office/culture. I donāt want to be under represented (token hire) nor over represented (all aboard the sjw kool aid train) but appropriately represented
Wow, that's terrible... Yes appropriate is a great way of looking at it. I'm sure it depends on the area too..
Similarly there is a huge bias towards hiring attractive women
I'm a semi minority (white Latino, not really oppressed but I could use the race card). I choose to not answer. They can look me up on fb if they want to know.
Go with the flow! You bring your best self and don't worry about those official forms. The hiring team doesn't get to see them anyway. They are for company records, for HR to claim they hire so many minorities. I don't know anyone who cared what you looked like if you bring it!
I havenāt seen that being taken into account when applying but if you have fb or LinkedIn with photos they will look you up. Slightly a more sinister hiring practice that Iāve witnessed is hiring someone into a role they arenāt a fit for just to tick or double tick the diversity box. They get all excited to have a ādiversity hireā but after 6 months they have a ādiversity fireā because they hired an unqualified person into a role for which they were not a fit. Just something to be hyper aware of when exploring options. I donāt want to see anyone else suffer through that situation ever again.
I would check both boxes. I am a white dude and always decline.
I am a white dude and once selected āblackā and āfemaleā because it said it didnāt matter (I was young and thought maybe the data was just for the government). I got an immediate onsite (skipped the phone screen). The interviewers were surprised when I showed up. It did not go well.
WOW!!
I mean if you identify as a black woman, who are they to tell you otherwise? Friggin transphobes
If you believe that life is unfair then at this point in time you have an unfair advantage of being WOC and you should capitalize on it without overthinking. If you think about fairness etc then go with decline to answer. I personally think capitalism is based on the premise that everyone is going to act on their personal best interest but that's just me.
See my next comment
āmaybe they donāt want a double minorityā Lol, youāre in tech, friend. Thatās the jackpot for companies.
Haha! Thanks. But (and I'm an overthinker) I've read some compaines don't like to hire us because we can pull the race/sexism card.š¤·š¾āāļø
And some hire just to fill diversity quotas
