Which country will be world superpower in 2030
I know Expedia is not too strict about PTO but in my benefit it says I get 15 days of PTO. Should I use my PTO days before quitting? It would be great if I can get a week off before my next job. It would be great to hear everyone's thought about using PTO before quitting.
Quit. Take pto as cash. Then take a week unpaid
Expedia doesn't pay out on PTO for non-accrued positions.
That sucks. That means it’s “unlimited” pto
Take pto.. dont cash out as more than half goes into taxes and time-off will help
Nuh ub they tax same as income
If you've got enough of it at once the withholding may end up bigger than it should otherwise be but you'll get it back when you file.
I don't think Expedia let's you cash it out...
Then take pto
Then why even asking. It’s not like you will burn bridges by taking your PTO. If a company philosophy is that bad why do you even care?
I never take time off between jobs. Once I realized the opportunity cost, I would rather have money for fun stuff. Calculate how much salary, prorated, your unused PTO is worth and decide if you really want to forgo that much money. That said, my current employer has unlimited vacation days which actually means I can't cash out "unused" PTO because there's no such thing.
What kind of fun stuff? Material things?
Take the PTO cuz the PTO earns more PTO. Plus RSU vesting.
Good idea but pay is delayed so there is time value of $
You can’t cash it out because they don’t accrue. It’s “unlimited vacation” policy with a guideline of 15 days
Expedia in WA doesn't let you cash out for a fact. In our financial statement we don't have vacation accrual for a reason, cus it's not a liability to Expedia.
Thanks @sg21. It seems like Expedia in Washington doesn't let you cash it out. I don't want to cause any inconvenience to my current manager and the team. Is it okay to put my resignation letter, put my two weeks of work in, then for the rest of days use all of my PTO?
Nope. Look at policy. Says you can't take vacation during your last two weeks of employment and can't be used to extend end date.
SDM here. There is policy and enforcement. Most policy is left to the descretion of the SDM and/or Director to follow through on, or not. Having spoken with HR, they pretty clearly leave a lot up to the managers to make judgement calls on.
If you're in good relationship with your manager, they'll probably let you do that. But if some managers will make you work until your last day and won't let you take any PTO. I've seen both. So it's totally up to you. If you don't think your manager will take your PTO, then take your vacation and then turn in your resignation.
Encash them.
