I have a paid off mortgage and zero debt. I even bought my car with cash. Trouble is I don't have enough savings to live the same standard of living in retirement so I'm working....
Idea is not to avoid working or early retirement but what work would you do in that scenario.
Why would work change? Are you assuming most people would be willing to take a pay cut to do something else if they could afford it?
Hahahaha mortgage (SF resident)
Did it! I keep working because I like cars and multiple homes
Zero debt, working because its fun.
Rent it out and get a camper van. Smoke a lot of pot.
Having paid the mortgage, car loans and credit card debt gives you freedom. You can work wherever you want, not afraid to take risk and enjoy playing your own game.
Mortgage free in 5 more years, no issues driving a 6 yr old paid for Jap car. The biggest benefit is that you can choose where you work and what you do with your sparetime i.e. Recursive (code, hike, swim)
