New grad wondering if I should take a full time offer as a plantain business deployment strategist or a Microsoft PM. Both are similar compensation besides the fact that Palantir's stocks are options. Palantir is in NY Microsoft is in Seattle
Is your background MBA or CS?
From Palantir, but also have worked at Microsoft, so I might be biased. Take the BD strategist. The amount and variety of work you will get as a “Echo” as Bd strategists are called in Palantir will let you grow way faster than being a PM at Microsoft. Echoes do a huge variety of things with in the team. From client relationships to project management to even people management. We have plenty of echos with 1 or 2 years of experience who handle presentations to C-level execs of various Fortune 500 companies, partake in multi million dollar deal negotiations and jump start multi billion dollar projects. As a entry level Microsoft PM you will spend most of your time sorting tickets and managing squabbling between you dev team and it’s dependencies. Not the most fulfilling job I say.
Any insights about the company and its culture?
Negativity against Palantir in the valley seems to be overblown. There’s a lot of incorrect information about the company in the press. Would really like the company to address it more but upper management seems to hold a we don’t care mentality.
Fuck Palantir. Shady company
Palantir is a scam
I’m a Microsoft PM and I love it - I joined as a new grad too. All the hate for Microsoft is exaggerated or in random orgs.
QWERTY nailed it, but a super quick summary: At Palantir you will grow your skills much faster. At Microsoft you get more stability - both from the personal and company perspectives. I would choose Palantir, especially if you are young, but that’s just my opinion.
NY is way more expensive. Don't count on ever being able to sell Palantir stock.
They give you a housing stipend outside of compensation
How big?
