Parental leave affects vest dates!?

Just found out that if I take parental leave, it pushes out my vest dates for the amount time I am gone beyond 2 weeks. Is this the case at every company? Or is this Amazon being shitty?

If I take 6 weeks off, it pushes out all future vest dates by a month. For literally the rest of my career at Amazon. Wtf is this bullshit?

Seems like it would be fairly standard but does suck for amazon employees since RSUs are such a huge factor in TC

I'm still employed. I still get insurance. This seems ridiculous to me.

I don't think that it impacts stuff like this at Intel, but while you are on leave you are actually not being paid by Intel, you are being paid by a 3rd party. There may be some technicality around you actually being employed at Amazon or not during that time.

Oh, that would make sense from a technical standpoint. So...some company that isn't Amazon is going to just give me money for not working? I wonder how that business model works. And why. And how my insurance is still in effect without being employed by Amazon.

It's basically like an insurance program. Intel pays them a fixed amount to administer the program and pay the salaries for the employees on leave.

So I'll get a W-2 from some other company next year? Jesus, what a stupid system.

Do your know if you can transfer your paternity leave to your wife(even if she is employed with some other employer) ? I heard something along those lines in the all hands meeting last week

Not sure if you can transfer paternity leave.

Not for your whole career. Just for outstanding grants

Ah. Thanks for clarifying. I asked the case worker (this requires a case worker!?) And he explicitly confirmed that it would last my whole career. He's probably mistaken. It makes sense that it would only apply to outstanding grants.

Oh, fuck. I'm getting more grants in a few weeks. Goddammit.

You worry too much. A few week shift won’t make much difference

It's more the principle of it. Like, one more thing to be "frugal".

It is an unpaid leave, so that’s consistent at least

This is what the case worker told me after I applied. It's accurate.
