Sounds like a lot of people on here are parking cash for a down payment on a place or hoping to eventually snatch a bargain on a real estate investment. Where do you keep this money and how are you having it work for you? Let’s keep retirement funds out of the discussion and talk short-medium term. I have some in a balanced tax-managed admiral fund at vanguard (VTMFX) and some in a money market fund. Hoping to learn how to be smarter with it while still keeping it liquid for the right home, possibly later this year. TC $330 (UI Engineer)
First, no bargain in real estate right now. Second, park it in a savings account and some safe etf like vti. Split 70/30 or 80/20. Do not risk it if you want to get a house, it's not worth losing your sleep over some gain.
Money market is smart if your need is less than 1 year out
