Passed Google HC, but failed SVP review.

I heard that it's pretty rare. No reason was given. Anyone know potential reasons and what SVPs look at?

Ask Google! FFS

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

I wouldn't be asking Blind if Google told me...

Microsoft FarZK Sep 29, 2018

Most companies will not tell you why you got rejected.

Google gostar Sep 29, 2018

Never heard of this happening. Something must have been significant red flag.

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

A flag that that wasn't seen by HC?

Microsoft Breache Sep 29, 2018

Tell us your history , I can tell why you got rejected

Microsoft FarZK Sep 29, 2018

I thought this was extremely rare, but see it much more than “Extremely rare” on blind. What is your level and was your comp so high? Also if you tell us more about your background we can guess

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

66 @ TC 420k. Recruiter said I'd be coming in at 380k and L6 - which I had no problem with. I said I love Google, it's not about the money for me.

Google NiceFella Sep 29, 2018

This could be the red flag. Coming in at L6 with 380k is too low, and it means you’re too desperate. Especially that your current TC is 420k, the SVP might be wondering why you are taking a pay cut. They may be thinking either you were fired and desperately looking for a job, or you lied about your current level and TC.

SVP's look at your past experience's relevance to Google's current direction. And of course your capabilities based on interview feedback. I don't think comp will be issue. Did you try hard negotiations on level and comp? That could be a red flag

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

We didn't even have those conversations - which is why it's so weird. Based on the on-site though, 4/5 hire recommendation. Did 2 follow up interviews afterwords and both passed me.

They read your posts on Blind and figured out that you're a racist.

Can also be rejected during VP review, which is prior to SVP. In one instance, denied candidate was not what VP is looking for (bias for certain types of employees from company x, or desired years of relevant experience). Sorry this happened to you but I've seen this occur a couple of times in my org.

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

Well... Passed the VP review. It just didn't pass the SVP review, which is why it's weird?

Google half_life Sep 29, 2018

It usually happens at SVP. VP is rare.

Doppler radars track everything unless you're indoors.

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

You think it's because of the school I went to? I went to a no name college and was going to aim at L6

Google NiceFella Sep 29, 2018

Google has 80k+ employees. Do you think all of them went to Stanford and Harvard?

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

After a certain level I think they require a certain level of schooling. So maybe not L5 and under?

Proofpoint foodtruckj Sep 29, 2018

Maybe he heard about you from someone at Microsoft who is very credible?

Microsoft monklo OP Sep 29, 2018

Yeah - they'd hear about all the good work I've done though. Never burned Bridges or made enemies.
