Passed Google hiring committee but was rejected by team

I’ve been interviewing at Google and cleared the hiring committee last week. I had a phone call with a hiring manager this week about a role on his team which I thought went well. My recruiter just let me know the team passed on my application. They are going to gauge interest from other teams but what does this mean for my overall application? Is it common to get rejected from a team after passing HC? How bad is this news??

If you did not say anything stupid you should be fine.

News is fine. Anyone passing hc is rare enough that there is almost certainly another team that would be interested.

Did they change the process again? Sometime back, they used to take candidate to HC only if there is a team match complete.

Yeah, it seems team match comes after HC

It used to be this way. But sometime last year they changed the process.

Holy shit google’s hiring process sounds miserable.

Yeah it hasn’t been a good time overall

It means you are currently in team matching. I got passed on by 3 team before finding a home. Managers will talk to several candidates and pick 1. Criteria could be anything but mostly your interest, background, exp, and interview score. How often you get match depends on your resume strength.

How long did it take for the whole team matching process?

Facebook EuSH03 OP Dec 18, 2017

Is there a limit for how many teams you can attempt to match with, or a time limit for the whole process? I’m applying for a position in a smaller office so not sure how often roles come up

Because you aren't diverse?

*Update* I have a call with another hiring manager in the new year. Hopefully I get matched 😬

Just curious, what sort of degrees do folks in design usually hold? Graphic Design?
